Idea Fair
Snow? No Problem
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
During a winter with more snow and ice than usual, the Club’s two outdoor paddle courts faced frequent weather-related challenges. Rather than accepting closures or extended delays, the court maintenance team identified a simple, proactive solution to keep the courts accessible and safe for member play.
By planning ahead and protecting the courts before snowfall, the team was able to significantly reduce downtime, improve efficiency, and maintain consistent access to a highly used winter amenity. This approach allowed the Club to continue meeting member demand for paddle during challenging weather conditions with minimal operational disruption.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
On nights when snow was forecast, the court maintenance team placed large plastic sheets over the paddle courts. The following morning, the sheets were quickly removed, revealing clear, dry courts ready for play. This process required minimal labor, saved time, and eliminated the need for more extensive snow and ice removal.
Member response was extremely positive. Players appreciated being able to get on the courts with little to no delay and consistently dry playing surfaces, even during a difficult winter season. The solution proved to be an effective, low-effort way to maintain playability and enhance the overall member experience.
