Strategic Communications - NextGen
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
THE NEXTGEN STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS PLAN was developed to support the most significant capital improvement project in the Club’s recent history—a $20 million investment in comprehensive golf course, practice facility, and clubhouse enhancements. Recognizing that the scope, cost, and operational disruption could easily fracture member confidence, leadership approached communications as a strategic discipline rather than a supporting function. The plan was intentionally designed to inform, engage, and build trust across a diverse membership, while proactively countering misinformation and emotional resistance rooted in past experiences with controversial capital projects. By doing so, communications became a central pillar of the NextGen Campus Improvements Project’s success rather than an afterthought.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
A dedicated NextGen Communications Committee was formed and began its work by conducting a SWAT analysis of the information stream associated with the capital improvement initiative. Based on this insight, the Committee recommended a layered communications initiative using established, trusted platforms. In addition to content-rich biweekly email communications, members had a dedicated landing page for easy access to the latest information. In-person interactions were a key pillar and included targeted small-group presentations and site tours, leveraging nearly 100 highly engaged and informed members as influencers. The transparency and wealth of information defused tensions and led to a vote with both high participation (80% of eligible voters cast a ballot) and high approval (79.5% of votes in favor of the proposal).
