Idea Fair
Sunshine Committee
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
The Sunshine Committee was created as a staff-led initiative focused on morale, connection, and retention. The committee’s goal was to help staff enjoy coming to work, feel appreciated as individuals, and stay motivated throughout the season. They organized monthly newsletters, wellness initiatives, shared activities, and even a book club.
The committee provided a proactive approach to staff engagement rather than relying on one-off efforts. By reinforcing the Club’s core values and encouraging cross-department interaction, it helped strengthen teamwork, boost morale during demanding periods, and create opportunities for staff to simply have fun. These efforts contributed to a more engaged team, positively impacting service quality and the overall staff experience.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
The Sunshine Committee was led by middle management and supported by an established budget, with staff from across departments invited to participate and contribute ideas. The group launched a monthly staff newsletter, planned year-round initiatives focused on wellness and development, and made a point to recognize both personal and professional milestones. Most notably, they lead a winter coat drive, a beach clean-up, organized a staff yoga class and created a book club! The response has been very positive, with employees expressing appreciation for the program.
