The Giant Chair at Grosse Pointe Yacht Club seemed to initially raise doubts among both staff and members, yet it unexpectedly became a favorite among families, at club events, and even weddings. The Giant Chair brought an exciting twist to our East Lawn, offering a unique photo opportunity that creates lasting memories. For events and weddings, it serves as an unconventional backdrop, sparking conversations and adding a playful touch to the occasion.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

Finding the right location for the Giant Chair was a crucial decision in its implementation. We needed a space with the right background, which we determined to be our harbor. Other important factors were considered, specifically space, aesthetics, accessibility and safety. The chair is adjacent to our main outdoor event space, which caused concern as to how groups would respond. While there was skepticism initially, the reaction turned overwhelmingly positive. Families appreciated it as a fun and unique spot for photos, while event organizers and wedding planners have found it to be an appealing and unconventional addition to their setups.
