The Gift of Service: A Holiday Role Reversal
Honorable Mention
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
The Team Member Holiday Party is the backbone of Hillcrest’s club culture and a defining expression of our values. This decades-long tradition strengthens morale, reinforces mutual respect, and deepens the bond between members and staff. By centering appreciation and gratitude, the event supports long-term staff engagement and retention while cultivating a culture where team members feel genuinely valued.
The tradition reflects Hillcrest’s family-like environment and sets the Club apart from others by demonstrating that hospitality is not just delivered, but shared. The strong member-staff relationship fostered through this event carries through daily operations, enhancing service, trust, and overall club atmosphere.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Each year, members are invited to volunteer as “elves,” stepping into service roles including cooking, bartending, serving, and bussing tables so that staff may be celebrated and enjoy the evening. The call for volunteers consistently fills within hours, underscoring how deeply members value the opportunity to give back.
Member reaction has been extraordinary. This is the event members look forward to most each year, and participation has become a badge of pride. Staff members feel seen, appreciated, and supported, while members gain a deeper appreciation for the work behind the scenes. The result is a powerful tradition that continues to strengthen the unique sense of community that defines Hillcrest.
