Wellness Committee: An Employee Health Initiative

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

This year we created a Wellness Committee comprised of eight staff members from various departments at PCC. They meet monthly to brainstorm and plan wellness events, challenges and speakers for the Staff. The Wellness Committee is a sub-committee of the previously established Employee Relations Committee at PCC. They submitted a proposal to the Finance Committee prior to budgeting for 2018 and got approval for a budget to support their programming and challenges. The Committee has seen great participation and enthusiasm from the Staff for each of their programs. The Staff that participated in the first challenge "Dash for Cash" logged over 2,696 walking/running miles in one month during the challenge. We look forward to the Staff continuing to see positive change and results from participating in this initiative.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

We began by conducting a staff survey to get inspiration and direction for this new Wellness Initiative. We kicked off the program with the entire Staff by holding a "Kick-Off Meeting & Lunch" to present the results of the survey, begin our first challenge "Dash for Cash" and had a nutritionist on-site to schedule voluntary appointments(fully covered by our insurance plan). Throughout the year we have held a Free Flu Clinic, Situational Self Defense Class & a 2nd contest "PCC Weight Loss Challenge." In addition to the programming, we have a monthly article in the Employee Newsletter which we discuss a variety of health related topics or monthly workout programs.
