Winter Ping Pong Tournaments

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

A few seasons ago, our Golf Pro Shop put a Ping Pong table in the Golf Shop for the off-season. The Members LOVED it! They would stop by the club just to play ping pong… So we now have four ping pong tables that we roll into the ball room, set up a projector and a bracket and have Ping Pong Tournaments. Each Match is 5 games to 11 points, Best of 5 games win.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

We charge 35.00 per player (signature bar). 15.00 towards heavy appetizers and 20.00 towards prizes for 1st and 2nd place. The members who have attended our Ping Pong nights have raved about it! We have had members age 13 to 70+ participate! It really has been a lot of fun for the members and the staff. The Golf staff runs the bracket and projector and generally keeps the night moving along.

The bracket Draw has begun at 6 p.m. Tournament begins at 6:30. With each member guaranteed at least two matches, the night has wrapped up between 9 and 9:30. Be sure to have a cooler full of water as Ping Pong works up a sweat.

Each Fall the members have come in asking when the Ping Pong tournaments are going to begin! With four tables, we have found 16-32 members is perfect but with a ballroom large enough for 500 we definitely have room to expand the number of tables and the number of members. The members are talking about a Member/Guest next time!
