12.17.18 GreetingsCEO’s Perspective: Looking Forward to 2019
Hello CMAA and Happy Holidays! 2018 is coming to an end and I hope you and your club had a terrific year. I also sincerely hope your 2018 professional plans came to fruition too. At CMAA, our 2018 plans were implemented. Our year was a success thanks to you and the passion you have for CMAA and club management. The 2018 Annual Report is in the works and will be ready for World Conference, so I will take a complete look back at 2018 in a future blog. Instead, I want to look forward to 2019 and tell you our plans for the coming year. Read more from CEO Jeff Morgan, FASAE, CAE, in his December blog.

Students and Mentors: Participate in the Conference Mentorship Initiative
Returning to World Conference this year is the Conference Mentorship Initiative. Created to enhance the World Conference experience for student chapter members, this initiative will give students a chance to connect with a specific manager during the week of Conference and will provide managers with an opportunity to mentor the future leaders of the club industry. The goal? Bridge the generational gap through meaningful conversations about our association, industry, and the profession of club management, all while enjoying the activities World Conference offers.

Manager/student pairs will be assigned before arriving in Nashville, giving mentors time to introduce themselves and share their schedule so that they may find time to connect with their student counterparts throughout the week. This time is flexible and may include attending the Opening Business Session together, going to education sessions, visiting the Club Business Expo, or even just grabbing coffee or meal together to discuss questions or concerns the student may have.

Managers and students interested in participating can sign up now. If you have questions, please contact Kyle Jennings.

YoPros: Volunteer to Participate in the Student Mentor Luncheon
Would you like to make a difference in a young Club Manager’s career? You can do so by volunteering as a mentor at the Student Mentor Luncheon! This is a great opportunity to get involved with CMAA’s future Club Managers, while you share your advice and experience in the private club industry.

EPA Proposes New Waters of the US Rule
On December 11, 2018, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of the Army proposed a revised definition of the waters of the United States that clarifies federal authority under the Clean Water Act. The proposed rule is designed to provide clarity, predictability, and consistency so that the regulated community can easily understand where the Clean Water Act applies—and where it does not.

This is step two of the two step process to repeal and replace the 2015 WOTUS rule that dramatically expanded federal jurisdiction over waters and wet areas in the US, including most water bodies on golf courses. Read more in the Legislative Report.

On December 11, US Citizenship and Immigration Services announced that the H-2B visa cap for the first half of the 2018 fiscal year had been reached. The final receipt date was Thursday, December 6. This is approximately three weeks earlier than the cap was hit in FY2018. Read more in the Legislative Report.
