Student & Faculty Chapter Idea Fair

Scholarship Application Workshops

Johnson & Wales University, RI, Student Chapter

Description

CMAA Student Chapter scholarship application workshops are held in the Fall and Spring semesters in advance of regional and national scholarship due dates. It allows the faculty advisor to work one on one with students on the applications for all the available scholarship opportunities. Most applications require that the advisor draft a letter of support as well as the student’s direct supervisor or club general manager.

Too often students do not apply or think about the application process with enough time to put the application packet together. The workshop allows for enough time to compile a thoughtful and comprehensive effort for the students. It also allows the Advisor to compile the packets and mail them out to a regional or national club contact, so they receive all the applications from a single chapter.

Implementation

In addition to winning the scholarship the workshop sessions create an exciting opportunity to engage chapter members, increase the number of applications and ensure deadlines are met, increases the number of scholarships awarded, elevates the value of CMAA Membership, funds continued educational opportunities, and recognizes and celebrates winners at CMAA regional and national events and on campus.

Student winners, their parents, non-winners (who applied), the private club class, and University representatives are invited to the awards dinner. The event is always well attended and hosted by a regional club, typically in conjunction with an annual meeting or chapter meeting.

Students who experience this cycle are motivated to apply in the next semester.
