Tennis Facilities

The Buffalo Club does not offer Tennis, but has a world class squash facility with two singles, one doubles and a large viewing area. The Buffalo Club's childrens squash program is one of the top programs in the city and employees a full time squash professional

Classic Grecian style indoor pool constructed in 1898.

Other Athletic Facilities

The Buffalo Club offers a 4,500 square foot Fitness Center with full service cardio, resistence, free weights, boxing room, multi pourpose room and 4 bowling lanes. The Fitness Center also offers a men's, ladies locker rooms with full meal service avialable in the both rooms. Each locker room has there own steam and sauna.

The historic Buffalo Club - home to elegance, distinction and luxury – has been a storied place since it’s founding in 1867, by former United States President Millard Fillmore and his civic leader colleagues. This renowned U.S. city club is now home to 1,000 members. The Club’s membership roster includes three former United States Presidents. 

Through more than a century and a half of impeccable stewardship, the Club has retained its timeless elegance while addressing the modern day needs and cultural changes. The last expansion, a multi-million dollar renovation and 16,000 sq. ft. addition in 2014, added four, exquisitely-designed overnight rooms, a full-service spa and salon, fitness facility and state-of-the-art meeting rooms. The Buffalo Club is a Platinum Club of America, a Top 25 City Club in America and a Distinguished Emerald Club of the World member.

Brief Job Description

The Restaurant Captain is responsible for assisting the Food & Beverage Manager with the overall operation of a la carte service and have strong floor presence to oversee the restaurant staff and to consistently achieve the service and product delivery standards with a high degree of member care and to provide an exceptional and memorable guest experience. 

Candidate Qualifications

General Requirements:

  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Anticipate guest and contact needs, ascertain satisfaction, and respond urgently and appropriately to concerns and requests.
  • Exceptional communication abilities when interacting/ directing associates, guests, clients and internal departments to build relationships.
  • Able to consistently perform tasks with little direct supervision.
  • Works harmoniously and professionally with co-workers.

Job Requirements:

  • Actively involved in dining room service, touching tables, and building member connections.
  • Strong leadership qualities and management techniques to successfully lead and support their assigned shift.
  • Provides direction to the service staff on pre-event setups, work assignments, closing and resetting needs.
  • Assist with training and monitoring all associates’ performance to insure a la carte service is consistently meeting Buffalo Club standards. 
  • Immediately respond to any guest issues and works with the Food and Beverage Manager to develop action plans to correct continuous issues.
  • Respond to any associate issues and assists in developing action plans to correct continuous issues.
  • Assists in managing reservations and plans dining room floor plans/ server sections based on anticipated guest count.
  • Inspects dining room daily prior to and at the end of each shift for setup, cleanliness, organization and maintenance, proper breakdown, and secure areas.
  • Insures all daily side work is completed and that all cleaning of the dining room and equipment is accomplished according to schedule.
  • Serves as the liaison between the front of house and kitchen.
  • Participates conducts daily pre-shift meetings.
  • Assists in scheduling while operating within budgeted labor cost guidelines.  Actively adjusts schedules when needed.
  • Assists Food & Beverage Manager to train, motivate, retain, discipline, evaluate and supervise the work of service associates ensuring that that all are complying with Buffalo Club Food and Beverage Vision and Values.
  • Direct associates to maintain the back of the house cleanliness and safety and ensure proper care, security and maintenance of club equipment through proper supervision of associates.
  • Being able to consistently perform tasks with little direct supervision.
  • Assist Food & Beverage Manager in administrative tasks.
  • Attend all required meetings.
  • May serve as the server during periods of slower volume.
  • In addition, other duties may be required as directed by your management.

Beverage Requirements:

  • Assist Food & Beverage Manager in all aspects of the club wine program.
  • Advanced understanding of executing a high-quality craft cocktail, beer and spirit program and bar operating procedures highly desired.
  • Assures all Buffalo Club associates are following state and local laws and club policies and procedures for the service of alcoholic beverages.
  • Works with F&B Managers to train all associates in the appropriate beverage service in their areas.  Conducts monthly wine trainings for all departments.
  • Keeps current with changing member preferences and industry trends relative to the wine operation.
  • Inspects all wine service areas for setup, cleanliness, organization and maintenance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have full availability and able to work a flexible shift.
  • Must be able to continuously sit, stand and walk a minimum of 8 hours.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, push and pull over the course of a shift.
  • All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per the club’s appearance standards.
  • Will be occasionally required to perform job functions outdoors and be exposed to sun, heat, humidity and other elements.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must have a reliable form of transportation to and from work.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
  • Must be able to periodically lift and carry up to 30 lbs.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school or equivalent education required.  Four-year hospitality degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1-2 years as restaurant supervisor or above at an upscale hotel, restaurant or private club. 
  • Private club experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience working in an upscale restaurant with revenues of $1 million+ 
  • Level I Certified Sommelier certification (or the ability to obtain within 1 year) is highly desired. 

Licenses & Certificates:

  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain any government required licenses, certificates or permits.
  • TIPS or Barcode or related alcohol service certification is preferred.
