Charles Johnson, CCM

Charles Johnson, CCM (Certified Club Manager), the Executive Manager/CEO of the Detroit Athletic Club in Detroit, MI, was elected to the Club Management Association of America (CMAA) Board of Directors at its 2024 World Conference and Club Business Expo, held in Las Vegas, NV. He was elected to serve on the Board of Directors for a three-year term.

Johnson has served as the Executive Manager/CEO of the Detroit Athletic Club since 2020. Prior to that appointment, he served as the Club’s Assistant General Manager from 2014 to 2020; the Food and Beverage Service Manager at the John’s Island Club in Vero Beach, FL, from 2010 to 2014; the Director of Food and Beverage at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, PA, from 2006 to 2009; the Food and Beverage Manager of Montauck Yacht Club in Montauck, NY, from 2004 to 2006; and the Food and Beverage Manager of Soaring Eagle Casino Resort in Mt. Pleasant, MI.

Johnson is an alumnus of Central Michigan University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Organizational Administration. In 2022, he earned the Master of Business Administration from the Executive MBA Program of Michigan Statue University where was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.

He first joined CMAA in 2010. He has been committed to professional development, earning his CCM designation in 2016 and earning admittance to CMAA’s Honor Society in 2023.

Johnson has served on many national committees including the Bylaw and Policy, Chapter Relations, Communications, Membership, and Research Committees. In 2024, he will chair the Corporate Relations Committee.

On the chapter level, Johnson has been an active member of the Greater Michigan Chapter, serving as Chapter President in 2023 and in other key leadership roles.   

As a CMAA Board member, Johnson will work together with the membership, National Committees and Task Forces, Partners, and the National Headquarters team to advance the profession and the broader industry collaboratively.
