Welcome to the Chapter: A Personal Start for New Members

The membership committee created a new-member welcome experience that combines a thoughtful welcome box with an invitation-only reception. The initiative was designed to make new members feel recognized, connected, and engaged from the beginning of their Chapter experience.

Each new member received a welcome box containing a chapter-logoed water bottle, a branded journal, and a book written by a speaker from a previous chapter education session. The box also included a personal welcome letter from the Membership Chairs, reinforcing that new members are valued members of the chapter.

In addition to the welcome box, new members were invited to a complimentary reception held one hour before the chapter’s annual meeting. The reception included not only new members, but also the Membership Committee, Chapter Board, and Past Presidents. The Membership Chairs formally welcomed attendees and led a toast in their honor.

This initiative enhanced the Chapter by creating a personal and memorable introduction to membership. The welcome box provided useful branded items and a connection to Chapter education, while the reception allowed new members to meet Chapter leaders, experienced members, and other new professionals in a relaxed setting. Together, these efforts transformed onboarding from an administrative process into an intentional relationship-building experience.

Implementation

The chapter implemented the initiative through two coordinated touchpoints. First, each new member received a welcome box with chapter-branded items, an educational book, and a personal letter from the Membership Chairs. The contents were selected to be useful, meaningful, and reflective of the chapter’s commitment to professional development.

The chapter then hosted a complimentary, invitation-only New Member Reception one hour before the annual meeting. New members were welcomed by the Membership Committee, Chapter Board, and Past Presidents. The Membership Chairs offered remarks and led a welcome toast, creating a celebratory introduction.

The reception provided new members with an opportunity to begin building relationships with chapter leaders and established professionals in a comfortable setting. The personal nature of both the welcome box and reception helped new members feel appreciated, connected, and encouraged to participate in future Chapter activities.
