Founded in 1899, Innis Arden Golf Club is a private club located 45 minutes from New York City. The Club features an 18 hole, Ken Dye designed golf course, driving range, golf teaching facility, 7 Har-tru tennis courts, 4 of them covered for winter play, 4 paddle tennis courts with a warming hut, swimming pool, bowling alley, and fitness center. Dining options include casual dining, seasonal patio, and summer cafe.  Private events such as weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, bridal showers and company parties are booked regularly by members and their families. The Club has an exceptional reputation as a family orientated club with excellent food, beverage and member services.

Position: Café Management Intern

Compensation: $15-$20 an hour based on experience

Job Summary

The Café Management Intern will be directly responsible for the daily operations of the seasonal café. Will participate in the pre-season hiring and organization of employee paperwork.  Attend staff orientation and lead training of staff on an ongoing basis throughout the season. Responsible for the scheduling of relevant seasonal cafe staff. Assure a high standard of appearance, hospitality, and service in personnel while also maintaining cleanliness of all areas of the café and pool deck dining spaces. Manage each area of responsibility within budgetary restraints as presented by club management.

The Café Management Intern will serve as the manager on duty on Mondays and Tuesdays when upper management is off premise.

Summary of essential job duties

  • Maintain and assure accuracy of member’s food and beverage usage during the summer months at the Bluefish Café.
  • Establishes café staff schedules in a timely manner. (minimum of 2 weeks of scheduling posted at a time)
  • Carefully supervises all seasonal staff to help assure proper service, may assist staff and take orders when necessary.
  • Inspects employees to ensure that they are in proper and clean uniforms at all times. 
  • Receives and resolves complaints concerning food, beverage, and service.
  • Responsible for the timely set up and breakdown of Jr. Golf activities as scheduled on the master calendar.
  • Responsible for setup, breakdown, and consumption tracking  of hole #7 golf event hospitality station
  • Serves as liaison between Café and kitchen staff.
  • Holds meetings with staff on procedure changes to improve overall service quality and efficiency.
  • Assures correct appearance, cleanliness, and safety of areas, equipment and fixtures; reports any deficiencies and maintenance concerns.
  • Assist Pool Director in the setup and breakdown of hospitality stations for aquatic events including swim meets, water polo matches, synchro, etc.
  • Work with assistant manager to have a detailed action plan for setup and breakdown of large events and pool side barbeques. (Memorial Day, 4th of July, White Party, Labor Day)  
  • Assists with private party and event set up to assure successful execution.
  • Ensures that all legal requirements are consistently adhered to including wage and hour and federal, state and/or local laws pertaining to alcoholic beverages.
  • Approves and audits weekly payroll for café staff.
  • Assists with for proper set up, accounting, and reconciliation of Point of Sale systems.
  • Proper usage of digital signage in café to promote food and beverage as well as Club events.
  • Monitors Café labor and supplies budget; makes adjustments based on volume and weather.
  • Promote, book and monitor bowling alley and pool party events and usage.
  • Inventory of all café supplies.
