July 4th Celebration: Giant Slip-n'-Slide

Description

Since implementation of the Slip-n'-Slide our numbers for members attending our July 4th celebration has doubled. The idea is so popular we added a second Slip-n'-Slide in 2018, to accommodate the increased participation.

Implementation

The club was looking for a new activity for our July 4th celebration. We typically do field games, (water balloon toss, gunny sack and three-legged races, tug-o-war) and pool activities. Our driving range sits at the top of a 200 foot hill, and in the winter gets utilized for a sledding party. The suggestion to add the slip-n-slide seemed only logical during the summer time and the idea to have it at our July 4th celebration was born. We utilize two 100 x 20 foot rolls of 6 mil visqueen for the slide and the Grounds department supplies the hoses and sprinklers for water. A 20 foot 2 x 4 is secured to the ground at the top of the slide and sandbags are used on the sides to keep the slide in place.

The club members are thrilled and excited each year the slip-n'-slide is set out for the 4th of July. Members begin arriving at 8:00am to "stake" their claim at the pool for the day and participate in all the days activities. Attendance has increased each year necessitating the need to add a second slip-n'-slide. The members spend more time at the club on the holiday as a result.
