EZ Ball Remover

Description

BACKGROUND - In January 2019, the governing bodies of the USGA in conjunction with the R&A, implemented an updated set of Rules which were designed to fit the needs of today's game while preserving golf's essential principles and character. Further it was their hope that these changes would have a positive impact on the Pace of Play and improve the Environmental Stewardship of the golfing public.

Although these changes were well intended, one rule in particular, Rule 13.2 (which allows for the Pin to be left in while putting without a penalty should the golfer hit the pin) has unfortunately had unintended consequences - there has been an ongoing and increase in damage to the edge of the hole.

PROBLEM - In an attempt to identify the cause of the damage, we observed our golfers, they would putt out leaving leaving the pin in and then reach into the hole with their hand (bare or gloved), a plastic gadget on the end of their putter or reach into the hole with a blade putter and attempt to scoop it out. OMG!

CHALLENGE - How do we keep our golfers from reaching into the hole to retrieve their ball as this is the act which is the cause of the damage.

Implementation

SOLUTION - One of our Ranger/Starters came up with an idea that we thought would possibly resolve the issue. We tested the idea and found that "it works", our members loved it and most importantly, there was a noticeable reduction in the damage to the edge of the hole and a bye product, it provided a positive on the Pace of Play.

BENEFITS - Based upon our initial and ongoing testing, we decided to install this product on all 18 holes. WE have found that it offers a "trifecta" of Winners:
