Chef Summit

Registration Opens for CMAA Chef Summit

The CMAA Chef Summit is designed specifically for club chefs to build their club leadership, finance, and governance acumen. Experience tailored education and explore the clubs of the Windy City including:

  • The Union League Club of Chicago – Founded in 1862, the Club has been a catalyst for action in nonpartisan political, economic, and social arenas – focusing its leadership and resources on important social issues.
  • Lakeshore Country Club – Founded in 1908, Lake Shore is a family-oriented private club on the shore of Lake Michigan. Perched above a bluff, Lake Shore's historic Howard Van Doren Shaw-designed clubhouse offers sweeping views of the lake and a beautiful setting for in-season events and private member functions.
  • Northmoor Country Club – Building on its traditions since 1918, Northmoor features 27 holes of golf, with its original 18 holes designed by designer Donald Ross, and a recent renovation by Hall of Fame course designer Dr. Michael Hurdzan. Northmoor’s racquet sports program is anchored by a tennis complex with ten tennis courts, four platform tennis courts, and a platform tennis facility built in 2014.

This event is presented in partnership with ClubProcure, a CMAA Education Partner. Club chefs from all over the country will learn, grow, and taste together, September 25-27, in the city named the food and drink capital of the world, Chicago, IL!

Membership and Member Benefits

Remembering Michael Mensah

Our CMAA National Headquarters regrets to announce the passing of CMAA’s Director of Finance, Michael Mensah, on April 20. Michael was a valuable member of the Finance/Accounting Department for 26 years. He valued collaboration with his colleagues and was a great team player.

Michael joined CMAA in 1996 as the Manager of Accounting and oversaw The Club Foundation accounting, payroll, and employee benefits, and worked directly with the CFO in preparing financial projections and related management reports. Prior to joining CMAA, he had a diverse background that included experience in retail, taxes, and not for profit organizations. Michael held a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the City University of New York, Lehman College.

In an interview with Club Management magazine in summer of 2021, Michael shared the best piece of advice he had ever been given: “Do not compare your life to others; we all shine when it is time.” Michael shone at CMAA and our team was brighter for it.

Outside of his professional achievements, Michael was a family man, the father of four, and loved soccer, fishing, and traveling. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Millie, and entire family.

Graduating Seniors: Is it Time for You to Join as an Alumnus Member?

Congratulations to our graduating seniors! Have you secured a management position in the club industry? If so, it’s time to join CMAA as an Alumnus member! Simply log into your CMAA account and join as an Alumnus member! Once the process is complete and your join date is established, your Alumnus years (you are eligible for the status for two years) count towards your six Professional years needed to be eligible to sit for the Certified Club Manager (CCM) exam. Alumnus status is a Professional classification, the only difference is that you receive a dues break for the first two years of your membership, at which point you automatically change to a Professional member.

Students: Scholarship Season is Upon Us

The first scholarship application deadlines start in less than a month. The first two, both due on June 1, are focused on students, the future leaders of our industry:

  • Joe Perdue Scholarship – This eponymous scholarship is open to all students at colleges and universities who are pursuing a degree in hospitality. Awardees are typically very interested in applying their talents and skills within the Club Industry. The scholarship is a cash award that is paid directly to the student’s bursar office to cover the costs of tuition and fees.
  • Student Chapter Grants – These grants provide travel dollars associated with student attendance at World Conference. Each student chapter can apply to receive this funding along with their free World Conference registration.

Ways to Give to The Club Foundation

The Club Foundation logoThere are many ways to support grants and scholarships through The Club Foundation. Most members donate by making one or more direct tax-deductible contributions throughout the year, but there are many who choose to give over time:

  • Make a recurring donation. You can schedule a small recurring automatic donation. This is often a great way to provide a stream of revenue that fuels scholarships, without having to make a large contribution. Recurring donations from those who donate this way add up over the year and truly make a difference for scholarship recipients!
  • Make a pledge. Anyone can donate by making a pledge—just fill out a pledge form to get started—and choose what amount to donate, on what frequency, and for how long.
  • Join the Legacy Society. By adding The Club Foundation as a beneficiary in your will, donating from your IRA, or donating through your life insurance policy or trust, you can support The Foundation without making a cash contribution.
