Student & Faculty Chapter Idea Fair

Etiquette Dinner

Niagara University Student Chapter

Description

Our chapter hosted an Etiquette Dinner with The Country Club of Buffalo to continue to develop our professionalism in the industry, learn proper doing etiquette, as well as network with managers in CMAA. This dinner allowed students to learn everything about manners and etiquette during a meal without the pressure of feeling the need to get everything right. This dinner will help us in our future endeavors when it is time to meet with a manager over a meal. Our chapter is committed to connecting with other Niagara University CMAA alumni and this was the perfect event to partner with them and be in a club setting! This idea has enhanced our chapter's operation it helps us to practice our networking skills and keep connections with alumni and managers who can help our chapter succeed. Additionally, this was our 2nd annual etiquette dinner, and we hope to continue it every year, so that new members and freshman always get the chance to experience it. Lastly, our chapter attends many professional events, such as conferences within CMAA and Niagara University itself. It is important for our members to know proper etiquette when dining with professionals so they see the level of effort and attention we put towards our chapter and being the best students we can possibly be.

Implementation

This idea was implemented simply because we as students felt that we did not have much experience with dining etiquette, but felt that it was crucial to learn as we always attend events where there is food and professionals who we are trying to network with. We know that managers recognize etiquette and mannerisms, so in order to present ourselves in the best way possible, we wanted to make sure every member knew exactly what to do in these situations. Our chapter also has a great partnership with The Country Club of Buffalo and were able to put this dinner together very easily, with the help of our alumni! We would not have been able to put on this dinner if our members were not interested in attending, but they were very excited when we told them about the dinner. They loved being in a low pressure setting while still learning and being able to talk to club managers and ask all the questions they wanted, as well as simply being in a club setting. Some of our new members have never been in a club before, so they felt it was very beneficial when preparing for student conference. Because of the positive feedback from all of our members, we will be sure to continue our etiquette dinner each year!
