Stay Connected with CMAA Over the Summer
With graduation behind us and summer internships in full swing, it can be easy to miss that built-in connection that comes so naturally with an active Student Chapter. Whether you are transitioning into your first professional role or heading to a new club for the summer season, staying in touch with your CMAA network takes a little extra intention, but is incredibly rewarding.
Seven Summer Tips
To help you maximize your summer, we’ve put together seven easy summer tips to stay connected to the CMAA community over the next few months:
- Tune into a Podcast: Check out Let’s Talk Club Management with Kyle Jennings, CAE, and Melissa Low, CAE. It’s CMAA's official podcast and a fantastic way to hear directly from industry leaders during your commute to the club.
- Seek Out a CMAA Mentor: Having a mentor who is active in CMAA and has (or is working toward) their Certified Club Manager (CCM) designation or someone with the career you are working towards is invaluable. Club management professionals highly value meaningful connections and are always willing to make time for aspiring leaders, so never hesitate to reach out.
- Ask Questions Anyway: Whether you're working with your Verified Internship Program (VIP) supervisor or chatting with a department head, ask to schedule a few minutes to connect. Asking your leaders questions demonstrates your drive and willingness to grow in your career.
- Maximize Your LinkedIn Network: Treat LinkedIn as an ongoing CMAA networking event. Share updates from your summer internship, interact with managers you met at World Conference, and celebrate your peers' successes to keep your name out there.
- Support Your Local Student Chapter: For our recent alumni, remember to make yourself available to your alma mater! Support current students and help them continue to grow by making introductions and sharing your professional network.
- Go on Tours: Connect with the local senior Chapter where you are working, studying, or interning. Ask to visit nearby properties for a tour and see if there are any summer networking events you can take part in. Most managers love showing off their facilities to visiting students and aspiring leaders!
- Step Outside Your Comfort Zone: Don't be afraid to take a chance and do the outreach. The worst someone can say is no, and the best-case scenario is a lifelong professional connection!
