Hurricane Dorian Bahamas Relief

Description

Hurricane Dorian wreaked havoc on the Bahamas last year. Our General Manager Michael McCarthy who is a director of the Seminole Region Charity spearheaded a fund raising project to obtain food and supplies to be shipped to the islands. He encouraged our Members and other general managers across the country to contribute to this cause. The project was successful in raising over $300,000. Support is ongoing as the Seminole Region Charity will soon build the first new school in the affected areas.

This community outreach effort was not a direct enhancement to our operations, but rather to the lives of many who were in desperate need.

Implementation

Under the direction of Michael, our Members and members of other clubs joined together to provide funds for food and supplies. Cheney Brothers, one of our major food purveyors, has operations in the Bahamas that were not affected. Their generosity provided transportation from South Florida to the islands at no cost to the charity, provided storage and dissemination of the goods on the islands and extended to the charity their "at cost" pricing for the food and supplies.

Our Members are incredibly generous and are supportive of our neighbors who may be in the path of these destructive storms. Efforts such as these serve to join Members and contributors in the realization of a greater good.
