Share the Spirit of CMAA

During his closing remarks at the 2023 World Conference and Club Business Expo, 2023 Chairman Michael Seabrook, CCM, CCE, introduced a movement to carry CMAA throughout his year as Chairman. To show the spirit of the CMAA community at large, he explained that each CMAA Chapter, Student Chapter, National Committee, applicable member and special interest group, BMI program, allied organization, etc. will have access to a CMAA logo beach ball for use in a year-long effort to highlight all we are, all we do, and our BIG reach across the globe!

So, the next time your Chapter gathers, or you’re attending a national event, participating in a student-related club tour, or showcasing a fun team event at your club, please take a picture with the CMAA logo beach ball (sent for starters to all Managing Directors) and send it to goodnews@cmaa.org. We will make sure your photos are included in an issue of Club Management magazine, on the CMAA website, in one of our digital newsletters, on social media, and quite possibly in next year’s World Conference slideshow!

Graduating Seniors: Is it Time for You to Join as an Alumnus Member?

Congratulations to our graduating seniors! Have you secured a management position in the club industry? If so, it’s time to join CMAA as an Alumnus member.

Simply log into your CMAA account and join as an Alumnus member. Once the process is complete and your join date is established, your Alumnus years (you are eligible for the status for two years) count towards your six Professional years needed to be eligible to sit for the Certified Club Manager exam. Alumnus status is a Professional classification, the only difference is that you receive a dues break for the first two years of your membership, at which point you automatically change to a Professional member.

Congratulations once again! Please contact Erica Benjamin with any questions about joining as an Alumnus member.

Have Your Club’s Internship Program Verified by CMAA

CMAA has developed a Verified Internship Program to elevate and streamline club internship offerings. Because clubs differ widely in their membership size, culture, and offerings, it may be difficult for students to know exactly what they can expect from their internship experience. This verified internship criteria helps manage the expectations of students, faculty, and managers, and holistically showcases what a career in the club industry looks like.

Interested in having your club’s internship program recognized as a CMAA Verified Internship?

Support National Golf Day Virtually

Annually, CMAA joins the leaders of the US golf industry’s most prominent allied associations for National Golf Day, in cooperation with the American Golf Industry Coalition (formerly We Are Golf). Advocates meet with members of Congress and their staff to highlight and discuss the industry’s valuable contributions to our nation's economy, environment, and local communities. The 2023 event will be held on Wednesday, May 10, and 275 industry professionals will head to Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.

Support CMAA’s Advocacy Committee and Legislative Chairmen in this important opportunity to make your voice heard on issues impacting our industry. CMAA members across the country are encouraged to support the event virtually by contacting their members of Congress using this Action Alert throughout the month of May and by posting on social media using #NationalGolfDay and tagging @golfcoalition.

Watch your email on May 10 for our official action alert and easy-to-use template.

Your voice is vital to our efforts to emphasize the immense value that clubs provide to their communities for decade after decade. Through your participation, we can reach every Member of Congress.

For more information, contact Melissa Low, CAE, Senior Director, Communications & Advocacy, at 703-739-9500.

USGA Unveils $30 Million Commitment to Advance Water Resilience Efforts in Golf

The United States Golf Association (USGA) is accelerating its work toward a more sustainable game with the deployment of a multi-year, multi-million-dollar investment toward reducing golf’s use of water.

The organization’s $30 million commitment over the next 15 years will advance underutilized strategies and technologies that golf courses can use to economically reduce their use of water, a vital and increasingly regulated natural resource with near- and long-term cost and availability concerns. The work will focus on irrigation optimization, advanced conservation innovation and water sourcing and storage.
