Career Services, Coaching, and Mentoring at the 2024 World Conference and Club Business Expo

The CMAA Careers Services Center—available to all World Conference and Club Business Expo attendees—provides the opportunity to gain valuable job search and employee placement assistance on-site and free-of-charge. There will be complimentary programs and services that include:

Job Boards: The CMAA Career Services Center features job boards listing current, vacant positions. All levels of positions will be posted, from General Manager/COO to internships. Managers, club boards, search committees, and search firms can submit listings that will be posted in Las Vegas, free of charge, for all Conference attendees to view. Whether you are actively looking for employment or just keeping an eye on industry trends, make sure you bring extra copies of your résumé to Conference.

Coaching Sessions: Coaching is an effective way to learn and make significant changes to your attitude, beliefs, and behaviors to create your successful future! Whether you are new to your career or a seasoned professional, there is always something to learn that will help you be even more successful. Join Kevin MacDonald or Shelley MacDougall for a 45-minute session at Conference. These can be scheduled online before or during Conference and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Career Opportunities and Networking Showcase: Are you looking to fill internship and entry level positions at your club? Or maybe just network with new or seasoned industry professionals? Join us at the Career Opportunities and Networking Showcase, being held Wednesday, March 6, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Managers interested in participating may reserve a table for $50 and earn one Association Activity credit. Complete the form to confirm your participation.

Mentoring: Every year at World Conference, CMAA offers a mentorship program that pairs students and managers together for the week. Are a professional member and have a passion for helping the next generation? If you answered yes, this program is for you! Each mentor and mentee will be paired a few weeks before Conference. Make sure you schedule a time prior to Conference to have a phone call to get to know each other and come up with a game plan for your time in Orlando. Sign up for this program during your Conference registration. The deadline to participate is February 10

Student/Mentor Lunch: If you’re looking to mentor but don’t want to commit to a full week, consider joining us at the Student/Mentor Lunch on Wednesday, March 6 at 11:45 a.m. Take an hour out of your day to have lunch with our bright minds of the future! Complete the form by February 21 to participate in this event.

Let the Planning for 2024 Begin!

Does your club hire Interns? If so, please list your openings on CMAA's Internship Job Board. You may list one or dozens of positions and the listings are FREE. Begin by logging in on the CMAA home page. Then go to Post a Job to begin entering the information. If you have listed an internship before, you should get a message that information has been saved. All the information is easily editable making updating easy.

If you are part of the Verified Internship Program (VIP) for 2024, be sure to check the box when filling out the form. Not part of the VIP? Please consider having your club become part of the program that is aimed at nurturing and helping to bring the best trained talent into the club management industry.

Reflecting on the 2024 Theme

Annually, CMAA announces its annual theme at the Leadership/Legislative. This theme reflects both the current conditions in the industry and aspirational goals to embrace. Our theme will be showcased in many ways throughout the year. For 2024, the theme recognizes the amazing growth and spirit of the CMAA membership.

The 2024 theme is There’s No Place Like CMAA.

As the year begins, it is a great time to reflect on what these three words mean to you as a CMAA member and to your Chapter. How can you use your communication and public relations efforts to focus on these goals? Could you incorporate it into your storytelling in digital newsletters, social media, etc.?

For more ideas, please contact your official liaisons Melissa Low, CAE, Vice President, Communications and Advocacy, and Kyle Jennings, Manager, Communications.

Legislative/Advocacy Chairman

A New Year for Your State Legislature

It’s a new year and many state legislatures are already back in session. CMAA is monitoring a number of trending issues, including:

  • Wage increases and elimination of the tipped minimum wage;
  • Pay transparency;
  • Water and input bans and monitoring;
  • Paid family and sick leave;
  • Predictive scheduling; and
  • Property tax changes.

Check out our grassroots website, clubindustryvotes.org, to access the latest in your state. You can also access legislator directories and learn more about the legislators representing your club and home.

Participate in Year Two of the Club Employee Demographic Assessment

The Club Management Association of America designed the Club Employee Demographic Assessment (CEDA) to help evaluate the degree to which your club follows leading practices in diversity and inclusion throughout your workforce. CEDA represents a comprehensive and confidential tool for clubs to assess and benchmark themselves against other clubs. The Club Foundation and CMAA have collaborated on a survey that will provide valuable information on what will be year two of what will be a journey toward understanding the demographics of private club employees. This survey takes about 10-15 minutes and only needs one submission per club. Learn more about the project and participate.

Diversity in the workplace means employing people of different ages, genders, ethnicities, sexual orientations, cultural backgrounds, and education levels. Through the four components of CEDA (Workplace, Workforce, Marketplace, Supplier & Community), we hope to help each club identify their own areas of improvement, build and update practices, and implement positive changes in their day-to-day operations.

2022 saw data collected from more than 140 clubs and we look to improve upon that in year two. Please take a moment to participate and help your club take steps toward adding value to your staff. Please contact Amilcar Davy with any questions.
